Not-For-Profit Executives and Board Leaders
There is a solution and a better way to face the challenges of being a not-for-profit (NFP) leader. I have worked with executive directors and board chairs of both large and small organizations, and helped them transform from frustration and juggling priorities to calm leaders with a wealth of resources, highly performing staffs, and supportive, excited, board members. What would happen to your organization, if you, your board, and your staff had clearly understood goals designed to achieve your vision and mission. Goals that were:Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time/Date, Yours What would you be able to achieve if you had the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary to meet your goals? What would your organization do if it had increased resources of money, time, and volunteers? How would you feel if you found the time and energy to bring balance to your professional and personal lives? How much better would your organization be if every member of your Board and staff fulfilled their proper responsibilities? I am Tom Schweizer, the Not-For-Profit Guru. For eighteen years, I have worked with not-for-profit leaders to build capacity and improve results in their organizations and personal lives. I know that success in today’s complex arena is challenging and the rules are changing. We can be assured of several things; the challenges facing us today will become more intense, the speed with which change occurs will increase, and the competition for resources will intensify. My clients have experienced:
What do you have to do to develop the attitudes, To create and lead an organization that will maintain a competitive advantage during these turbulent times, many leaders will have to transform an organizational culture that was founded on yesterday’s paradigms and ideas. Attitudes and behaviors reflecting new and different social and organizational values will have to be adapted. For many people, learning to adjust to change will be difficult and managing change will present even greater challenges. Organizational success will require leadership that is focused on positive results. We offer a proven path to help you create an environment in which people will be excited about operationalizing your established vision. It will provide you with techniques for aligning your resources, and guidelines for effectively leading people to higher levels of performance. My clients have achieved new heights of success by carefully analyzing where they are, exploring their strengths, and creating a vision of where they want to go. Then, through a goal setting process that breaks huge obstacles down into doable steps, they develop the necessary skills, knowledge and attitudes to achieve remarkable success. Let me talk a bit about attitude. Do you find your board, staff or yourself trapped in a “we could never do that, we tried it and it didn’t work, and we are too small to do that” mentality. If so, you are victims of your own attitudes. Attitudes are nothing more than habits. I bet you have broken bad habits a long time ago, such as biting your nails or sucking your thumb. So why do you struggle to break a mental habit? The process is the same! Working with people for an extended period on both personal and organizational issues makes our process an exceptional foundation for an individual coaching relationship. Many people believe that hard work and doing it on their own are the keys to finding the quality of life, success, money or happiness that they seek. They believe a price must be paid to attain what they want and often that price is poor health, not having enough time to enjoy life, strained family relationships, and lessened productivity. The saddest part is that even though this effort may result in more of something, it is often not the “something” they had in mind. Athletes and performers know about this trap. They know that they need someone else, a “trained” someone else, to help them set goals, discover real needs, and work effectively toward excellence, and they are willing to invest in a coach or a teacher. No serious athlete or musician would expect to progress very far without one. My coaching process helps individuals and organizations to achieve excellence and balance in their lives. Results clients have achieved include:
